harrastMark A. Harrast, MD
Mark is a clinical professor of Rehabilitation Medicine, Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at the University of Washington. He is board certified in Sports Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  Dr. Harrast is the inaugural and current Medical Director of the University of Washington’s Sports Medicine Center at Husky Stadium and the Director of the Sports Medicine fellowship program there.  Also, since 2007, he has been the Medical Director of the Seattle Marathon with his primary clinical interest being the care of the endurance athlete, runner, and triathlete as well as athlete safety and medical care in mass participation endurance events.  He has co-edited the text, Sports Medicine: Study Guide and Review for Boards, which is in its second edition. He has also been honored with the Outstanding Teaching Award at the University of Washington.

Dr. Harrast’s educational pedigree began by graduating with honors from the University of Chicago and then obtaining his medical degree from Northwestern University.  He was elected Chief Resident during residency at the University of Washington and was honored with the “Outstanding Resident Award” at graduation.

Outside of work, Dr. Harrast is an accomplished competitive runner and triathlete.  He has raced 14 marathons with a personal best of 2:46; 4 Ironman triathlons in the US, Canada, and Brazil, finishing in the 10-hour range; and numerous Olympic distance triathlons and road races nationally and internationally.
