On Saturday 18 May Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon takes place. Here are ten essential and some optional items to check off your list before the start.
1. Pick-up your race bib
You pick-up you race bib at the Göteborgsvarvet Expo, Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre (Svenska Mässan). Think about picking it up as early as possible, preferably Thursday or Friday.
Scan the QR-code on your confirmation sheet for free entry including race bib distribution and to get your race bib printed out. Opening hours Expo: May 16 th 10am-9pm, May 17 f 10am-9pm and May 18th 9am-2pm (count on longer lines if you want until race day to pick-up your race bib).
2. Plan in advance how you are going to get to the start – and finish area
Remember there are going to be a lot of people in the city the day of the race so allow yourself enough time. Take public transport to the exhibition and to the start area, together with our main sponsor ÅF we are offering free public transport (confirmation sheet and race bib are valid tickets). If you have the possibility we suggest you take your bike to the start, bike parking is available at Dalens gravel field at the start.
3. Starting time
Double check your starting time and which starting group you are in. You should be in your starting group at least 30 minutes before your start. Information about your start group and start time is on your confirmation sheet that you have received via e-mail and even on My pages on Göteborgsvarvet’s website.
4. Drink smart!
Remember to read Göteborgsvarvet’s own medical doctor’s advice so you not only have a safer experience but also more fun!
5. Tracking runners
Are you running and you want your family and friends to track your progress along the course? We offer two services to track runners: RaceONE where your followers can see where you are along the course or text where your split times are sent at 5, 10, 15, 20 km.
6. Free running pictures
Along the course and at the finish there will be photographers that will be taking individual pictures of all the participants. You can find your pictures after the race at bootz.com. You need a “PICA-code”, that is on your race bib and on My pages.
7. Varvetdeals (Race deals)
In line with our work becoming a more sustainable event we have stopped handing out offers and deals in a plastic bag. Instead you can find them on “Varvetdeals” on My pages on goteborgsvarvet.se
8. Chip timing
Put your timing chip on your right ankle. No timing chip no finish time. Remember you do not need to push your way to the front of your group, your time does not start until you have ran over the first timing mat.
9. Half marathon keepsake
A popular keepsake from the Göteborgsvarvet is our diploma which includes your name, ranking, split times, finish time. The diploma costs 65 SEK. New for this year that makes your achievement even more memorable is a personal medal pin with your name and finish time that you attach to the medal band. The personalized medal pin costs 95 SEK. You order both the diploma and the medal pin from My pages and it is sent to you after the race (June and August).
10. Medical information
Fill in the medical information on the back of your race bib! Wear the race bib unfolded on your chest.
