The world’s largest half marathon takes place tomorrow, 19th of May. Here are ten points to check off before you start.
1. Pick up your race bib (start number)
As a runner in the Göteborgsvarvet you’ll pick up your race bib at the Göteborgs Expo, Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre (Svenska Mässan – map). Remember to leave in plenty of time, we recommend that you pick up your race bib on Thursday or Friday.
Thursday 17 May 10:00am–9:00pm
Friday 18 May 10:00am–9:00pm
Saturday 19 May 9:00am–3:30pm
2. Plan how you are going to get to the start and finish areas
Remember there is going to be a large amount of people out and about, getting around is going to take more time than usual so be sure to plan accordingly. Take public transportation to the expo and to the start area. Runners ride for free from 17-19 May (use race bib or start confirmation as your ticket).
Trams and busses go to Korsvägen (Göteborgsvarvet Expo) and to Marklandsgatan, Botaniska Trädgården and Linnéplatsen (near the start and finish).
3. Start time
Double check what time you start and which start group you are in. You should be in your start group at least 30 minutes before the start. Information regarding your start group and your start time is on the start confirmation that was mailed to you in April or on My pages on our website.
4. Advice from the race doctor
Remember to read race doctors tips so that you not only are safer but also have more fun!
5. Follow a runner
Are you running and want your family and friends to follow you along the course? Register at RaceONE and run with your mobile, with RaceONE you followers can see where you are via GPS.
6. Free race photos
As a runner you can register for free race photos via Facebook!
7. Chip timing
Put your timing chip on your right ankle. No finish time without the timing chip. Remember you do not need to push your way to the front of your group, your time does not start until you have ran over the first timing mat.
8. Medical information
Fill in your medical information on the back of your race bib. Secure your race bib to your shirt with safety pins. One more thing, don’t forget to tape your nipples to prevent chaffing.
9. An eco-friendly event
Göteborgsvarvet is ISO 20121 certified as an eco-friendly event. Help us in our efforts by
recycling, choosing a vegetarian meal and by choosing environmentally friendly transportation.
10. Plan on using the toilet before the race!
There are many portable johns in the area but remember there can be long lines. You will most likely regret it if you do not use the toilet before the race.
