A car-free day - Use muscle power, not engine power
It’s almost here. The one-off Göteborgsvarvet Marathon that will fill Gothenburg's streets with runners and spectators in a spectacle like no other. The race is a part of Gothenburg´s anniversary celebration along with several other events around in the city. Therefore, we please ask you to leave your car at home during the Göteborgsvarvet Marathon and instead use alternative means of travel on Sep 3.

Together, we can make a contribution to the environment and make it easier for each other and for emergency services personnel who may need to navigate through.

Below you will find information on how to get to Göteborgsvarvet Marathon by bus/tram, bicycle or by foot. Remember to start early regardless of how you get to the Göteborgsvarvet Marathon to avoid possible delays.

Via public transportation
Public transport routes will be changed on Sunday before, under and after the Göteborgsvarvet Marathon race. You can find information about how public transport runs on Sep 3 on Västtrafik's website. Do Plan your trip in advance by downloading the Västtrafik's app and select "To Go" or visit the Travel planner that helps you plan your route for cycling and walking. The app also provides information about which buses/trams are accessible.

It is NOT possible to travel for free with your number bib on Västtrafik's buses/trams.

Getting to/from the start with public transportation
The nearest stop to the Start at Slottsskogen is Linneplatsen, and alternatively Marklandsgatan. Major stops that connect to Marklandsgatan are Korsvägen, Lisebergs station, Drottningtorget and Järntorget.

Styr & Ställ Cykel - Easy and cheap rental bike all over the city
Styr & Ställ are the city's rental bikes and are available in several places around central Gothenburg. In order to rent a Styr & Ställ bike, you need to register and buy a ticket. You can do this easily in the Nextbike app or on Styr & Ställ's website. More information on how to use Styr & Ställ can be found here. (Note, the site is in Swedish)

Please note that the Styr & Ställ stops Slottsskogsgatan and Dalen's sports field will be closed during the Göteborgsvarvet Marathon. Updated information about closed and possibly full stops can be found in the app - Nextbike.

By personal bike
Plan your trip well and leave in plenty of time. Keep in mind that there will be limited access and a lot of people on the roads so please show respect for pedestrians.

It is not possible to ride bike through Slottsskogen or on Margretebergsgatan.

By car
If you still choose to take your car, it is essential to stay updated on traffic diversions, closures, and available parking options. Expect longer travel times than usual. Be sure to leave with plenty of time!

The Marathon Expo is an experience in its own right and the place where it all begins. Come and immerse yourself in all things running, fitness and recovery and discover the latest equipment to help you reach your goals. Runners of all abilities are welcome, there is no distinction when it comes to being in an environment that breathes running and fitness.

The Marathon Expo is located at in Friidrottens Hus, Mikael Ljungbergs väg 10 and is open between 1-3 September.

The Course
The Göteborgsvarvet Marathon is a unique challenge! Run into history and celebrate that the city of Gothenburg turns 400 years with 42k.

The first lap is probably familiar to the accustomed Varvet-runner, but now you run in the opposite direction. Just think of running down the Avenue instead of uphill! Lap two offers completely new parts along the beautiful Masthuggskajen. All the way from start to finish, the course offers charming and vibrant neighborhoods, bridges with fantastic views of Gothenburg's harbor and archipelago, and an extraordinary folk festival!

Timing
Timing takes place electronically and starts when you passes the start line, so you don't have to queue up to get a good position at the start. Your timing chip is fixed to the back of your race bib when issued.

To pay attention along the track

• Keep to the right
  Some parts of the course are narrower than what Göteborgsvarvet runners may be used to. If you want to take it a little more calmly during the race, try to keep to the right as the left part of the course is designated an overtaking lane.
• Älvsborg bridge
  When you reach the Älvsborg bridge from Hisingen, it is extra IMPORTANT that you keep to the right so that your fellow runners with a faster pace can overtake. If you need to rest, we recommend that you take a break before the bridge as this path is narrower and does not offer room to stop and look at the view.
• After 18 km - road choice!
  Shortly after you have passed 18 km, there will be a road choice (at Dalens gravel field/Margeretebergsgatan), keep to the left according to the signs "lap 1". When you arrive the second time after approx. 41.5 km, follow the blue signs "lap 2" and you will immediately reach the finish line at Slottsskogsvallen.

Please note that runners share the course with wheelchair participants and they can sometimes reach high speeds on downhill slopes.

It is important to be aware of your surroundings on the course so please take care at all times.

Hydration stations
There are 14 water stations along the course, 8 of which are also supplied with energy drinks from Umara. Besides water and energy drink, other energy sources will also be provided along the route, such as pickles, bananas, salt, salty liquorice fish, chocolate balls and soda (cola).

3.5 km - Götaplatsen - Water
8.5 km - Lundby Hamngata - Water, sports drink, banana
11.7 km - Västra Sannegårdskajen - Water, chocolate ball
13.5 km - Monsungatan - Water, sports drink
16.1 km - Ostindiegatan - Water, sports drink
19.3 km - Slottsskogen - Water, pickle
23.1 km - Ostindiegatan - Water, sports drink, soda (cola)
25.8 km - Fiskhamnen - Water, salty liquorice fish
28.3 km - Stenpiren - Water, sports drink, salt
31.8 km - Lundby Hamngata - Water, sports drink, banana
35 km - Västra Sannegårdskajen - Water, chocolate ball
36.8 km - Monsungatan - Water, sports drink
39.4 km - Ostindiegatan - Water, sports drink
42.2 km - Finish - Water + more energy in Runners zone

Pulling out of the race, cut off and maximum time
If you are forced to pull out of the race, there is transportation by bus from the hydration stations back to the finish area. The maximum time to finish the race is 6.5 hours for those who start in the last wave.

Along the course, there are six cut off times to respect, in order the reach the finish line before 6.00 PM. This is to ensure that traffic restrictions are lifted according to plan.

12:30 PM - 5.8 km - Opera House
2:45 PM - 20.5 km - Slottsskogen
3:30 PM - 25.8 km - Fiskhamnsgatan
4:25 PM - 31.8 km - Lundby Hamngata
5:15 PM - 36.8 km - Monsungatan
5:35 PM - 39.4 km - Ostindiegatan

The finish will close at 6:00 PM.

Medical services
Medical stations are are placed at several locations along the course and in the start and finish area.

Please familiarize yourself with the course map and know where they are in emergencies.

Music
For maximum excitement during the race, there are troubadours, DJs, entertainment, partners and bands along the course for your enjoyment.

Toilets
Available in the start and finish area, and also at all water stations along the course.

Live results via Göteborgsvarvet’s app
If friends/family want to follow your progress they can do so in our app "Göteborgsvarvet" which is available for download in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (android).

The app includes:

• Live results where you can follow your friends with position and time.

• Participant and visitor information
• Results lists
• Beautiful selfie filters

Be aware that the app was recently updated for the 2023 race. If you already have the app downloaded then please update it in your phone. Also go into the app and click on the bell icon in the top right corner. Then click on Timing and News to checkmark them. This way, you will receive push notifications with live updates for the runners you have added as Favorites, including intermediate checkpoints and the finish line.

To follow runners; click on "Follow your friends - Results & Favorites" and search for the person you want to follow. For SEK 40 you can follow up to 25 runners at the same time. Click (+) and a runner will be added as a Favorite.

In order for them to be able to follow your exact position during the race, you need to register with your Registration ID + surname in the app at "Start live-tracking - My Race" You also need to start tracking in the app at the start of the race. You can find your Registration ID in the start certificate email.

If a friend wants to follow you and you have not registered your registration ID/started tracking during the race, your friend will see your split times and results live, as well as see the estimated time for the next split stage and estimated position, but not your exact position on the course.

Live results via SMS
Send sms to the number 72700, any of the following codes and start number:

• RGV start number (you get times after the finish). E.g: RGV 1234
• GV start number (reports along the course). E.g: GV 1234
• GV start number TILL mobile number (order to another mobile phone) E.g: GV 1234 TILL 0709123456

Service cost SEK 35 per order and is provided by EST and supported by Telia, Halebop, Tele2, Comviq, Telenor and Tre.

The Gothenburg Half Marathon cannot guarantee the service in case of issues with the network operators. The SMS service is only applicable to the Göteborgvarvet Marathon.

Along the course
A good advice is to make your way to one of the public areas, such as the starting point at Slottsskogen, Götaplatsen, the Opera House, or the finish line at Slottsskogsvallen. Along the entire course, there are several enjoyable music stations where you can listen to live bands. You can find information about the bands performing along the route here.

Finished!
Once your cross the finish line inside Slottsskogsvallen you will receive a hero’s welcome, and the very well deserved Göteborgsvarvet Marathon medal will be placed round you neck and refreshing water awaits. You’ve made it. You completed the 42km course and all your training has been worth it.

Runners Zone
A place for recovery, snacks, drinks and massage. Here you can enjoy the moment, discuss the race with other runners or congratulate each other on a fantastic performance. Se map in bigger format here.

Massage
The massage service is free of charge for all runners after finish and is found inside the Runnser´s zone.

Results
Split times and finish times are updated live and can be found here or in our app - Göteborgsvarvet. The result is also published on Göteborgsvarvet's website approx. 24 h after finishing.

The Marathon medal
The medal for this unique marathon is created by the jewelry artist Carolina Claesson from HDK-Valand, Academy of Art and Design.

The city coat of arms surrounded by a laurel wreath is perhaps Gothenburg's most classic expression.

We have created the medal we ourselves would like to receive after a performance of over 42 kilometers through the city of Gothenburg.

Finisher T-shirt
After 42 km it is allowed to brag! In addition to the medal, water and snacks at the finish, you will also get a Finisher T-shirt as a memory of your great performance. Collect your T-shirt in the Runner´s zone. There is one T-shirt checkout per size, your pre-selected size will be printed on your bib. For runners who have not selected a size, there is a separate queue with mixed sizes.

Personalised medal badge (iTAB)
Via my pages where you can buy a personalised medal badge with your name and your finish time engraved on it to commemorate your achievements and attach it to the medal ribbon for only SEK 105.

The last day to order a personal medal badge is 2023-09-30. Your personal medal badge will be sent home by mail in October.

Diploma
Diplomas with your split times can be ordered on my pages. The diploma costs SEK 65. The last day to order a diploma is 2023-09-30. Diplomas are sent home by mail in the month of October.

Toilet
Available in the finish area just outside Slottsskogsvallen and Frölundaborg.

The most important race of the year! Run, jog or walk the 5 km long track through Slottsskogen. Together we fight breast cancer.
SEK 50 per starting place goes directly to the race´s charity partner, the Breast Cancer Association.

Our smallest sprinters should also get the chance to run double laps during the Marathon Weekend! Not only will they cover twice the distance, but they will also experience double the joy and twice the fun!

Your effort makes a difference!
We work with sustainability in all dimensions, and you can make a big difference by:

• Travel by train/taking public transportation to and from the event.
• Sort your waste and disposing of it in the correct bins at designated areas.
• Throw your cup in the large white bags at the course's hydration stations.

NOTE! Remember that it's prohibited to litter on any of the bridges. Instead, use the Trash Zones located before each bridge, or dispose of your waste at any of the course's hydration stations.

If you can't participate
A registration for Göteborgsvarvet Marathon is binding and the registration fee paid is not refunded, but you have the possibility to transfer your entry to another runner who wants to participate instead.
