The Göteborgsvarvet Marathon is a unique challenge, allowing you to experience the closed roads and city centre of one of Scandinavia’s most beautiful and vibrant cities.
The marathon course passes many of Gothenburg's finest places. Start is in Slottsskogen and finish at Slottsskogvallen. The course goes two different laps around town with parts of the classic Göteborgsvarvet as well as novelties. The course offers charming and vibrant neighborhoods, bridges with fantastic views over Gothenburg's harbor and archipelago and an extraordinary folk festival, welcome!
The medal for this unique marathon is created by the jewelry artist Carolina Claesson from HDK-Valand, Academy of Art and Design.
The city coat of arms surrounded by a laurel wreath is perhaps Gothenburg's most classic expression.
We have created the medal we ourselves would like to receive after a performance of over 42 kilometers through the city of Gothenburg.
After 42K it is allowed to brag! In addition to the medal, water and snacks at the finish line, you will also get a Finisher T-shirt as a memory of your great performance.
Order a personalized medal badge and/or a certificate. You can make the addition when you register for Göteborgsvarvet Marathon or on My pages if you are already registered. The add-ons will be sent sent home by mail about a month after the race. Check that your address details are correct on My pages och participant confirmation and update them if necessary.
Let the Göteborgsvarvet in May be a warm-up before double distance in September. In 2023, you have the chance to do a marathon combo with our classic Göteborgsvarvet half-marathon, and then continue the challenge with 42K during the Göteborgsvarvet Marathon. Do you accept our marathon challenge of 2023? Combo price of SEK 1600.
Self-seeding is applied based on your expected result. You as a runner choose the starting group you think you belong to. More information will come in spring 2023.
The first start group is at 11.00. Last start group 11.30.
Timing starts when you cross the starting line.
The start for the Göteborgsvarvet Marathon takes place between 11-11.30, the maximum time will be 6.5h - 7h depending on which start group you will start in.
The second lap must start no later than 14:45 . Finish close at 18:00.
The Swedish Athletic Association states the minimum age for participation in a marathon is 17 years. Runners under the age of 18 at the time of registration need the per ission of their parent / guardian.
Placement 1 -5, men and women respectively win prize money as below.

Payment: Prize money is sent afterwards to the respective association. For foreign participants, a tax deduction of 15% applies.
