Specialvarvet May 18 is a race all about joy and inclusion, where everyone who participates is a first-place winner. Specialvarvet has become a true highlight of the year for many children, youth, and adults with diverse abilities. 

The atmosphere is magical as Slottsskogen fills with joy, laughter, and cheers. When the warm-up starts, the party truly begins with dancing, sing-alongs, and tons of energy.

As the race kicks off, participants run, walk, or roll toward the finish line based on their own abilities, often together with a companion. The race concludes with a powerful finish at Slottsskogsvallen. Together, we create memories for life.

Course mapTwo exciting courses

In Specialvarvet, there are two different courses to choose from when registering. Both start in beautiful Slottsskogen and finish at Slottsskogsvallen. At the finish, a well-deserved medal and other surprises await.

Starting Waves, course & start time

Starting Waves – Red Course, 2.4 km:
First starting wave, Red Course – 11:00

Starting Waves – Blue Course, 1.4 km:
First starting wave, Blue Course – approximately 11:45

Exact start times and starting waves will be announced in spring 2027.

Specialvarvet ArenaStart and finish

Specialvarvet starts below Säldammsbacken in Slottsskogen. You can collect your race bib near the start area.

After crossing the finish line, continue to the Runners Zone in the entrance park at Slottsskogsvallen. Here, you can recover with snacks and refreshments, enjoy the moment and celebrate your achievement with your fellow runners.

School or support serviceGroup registration

If you are participating as a group from a school or support service, you can create a group and manage it yourselves. Each participant must then be registered individually within the group.

Registration for Specialvarvet 2027 will open at a later date.

Finish areaMeet Varva, the running troll!

In the finish area, you'll get to meet Göteborgsvarvet's very own running troll, Varva. Varva loves to run, but loves giving out hugs just as much.

Race InformationGood to know before the race

  • Registration

    Registration is open until 10:45 on race day, 18 May, unless the race sells out earlier. All registrations must be completed via the website.
    The deadline for group registration and registering runners within a group is 22 Apri

    Registration fee:
    SEK 199 until 31 January 2027
    SEK 249 from 1 February 2027

  • Start certificate & bib distribution

    The start certificate will be sent to the email address provided during registration and contains all the information you need for the event.

    The race bib is collected on-site at the race bib tent near the start. Race bib collection is open from 09:00 to 12:00. Please arrive in good time and remember to bring your start certificate!

  • Getting here

    Bus parking
    For groups travelling to Specialvarvet by big bus, parking must be booked in advance. To reserve a spot, email logistik@goteborgsvarvet.se no later than 15 March 2027. Limited spaces available!

    Information about transport services, other parking, and public transport will be updated later.

  • Guide & companion runners

    In Specialvarvet, participants are welcome to take part with one or more accompanying runners, such as a companion, support staff member, personal assistant or family member.

    Accompanying runners do not need to be registered.

  • Assistive devices

    Participants are of course welcome to use any assistive devices they need to complete the race, such as a Frame Runner, wheelchair, walker, powered wheelchair or other assistive devices.

  • Warm-up

    A group warm-up will take place in the start area, led by instructors from STC.

  • Timing

    Timing starts when the runner crosses the start line and stops when the runner crosses the finish line.

  • Bag drop

    The organiser does not provide storage for bags, valuables or other personal belongings.

  • Medal

    All participants who complete Specialvarvet receive a medal after crossing the finish line.

  • Changing facilities & toilets

    We recommend that participants arrive already changed and ready for the race. Shower and changing facilities are limited, but changing rooms are available if needed at Slottsskogens Ishall. Please follow the signs on-site.

    Toilets are available in the start and finish areas, as well as at Dalens Idrottsplan.
