Do you feel that Göteborgsvarvet’s 21.1 km is a bit too long? Have you just started running? Do you prefer shorter distances at a faster pace? Or do you want to experience the festive atmosphere of Göteborgsvarvet without running a half marathon? Then Cityvarvet - 4,3 km - is perfect for you.
Cityvarvet starts at Götaplatsen, at the top of Gothenburg’s main boulevard, Avenyn, May 23. From there, you follow the blue line along a course lined with cheering crowds, music and motivation stations, and finish with a grand finale inside the iconic Slottsskogsvallen. We recommend that all participants aged 13 and under run together with an adult.

Race course:Festive run through the city
The Cityvarvet course is 4.3 kilometers long. The race starts at Götaplatsen, in the heart of Gothenburg, where you’ll be greeted by music and entertainment. The route then takes you downhill along Avenyn, onto Vasagatan, along Övre Husargatan, into Slottsskogen, and finishes at the iconic Slottsskogsvallen.
At the same time as the Cityvarvet finish, the Göteborgsvarvet half marathon starts just outside Slottsskogsvallen. To keep you motivated, there will be music along the course, as well as two hydration stations where you can grab a well-earned cup of water or sports drink.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in the women’s and men’s categories

As a runner in Cityvarvet, you get to take part in the Runner Zone at the finish line, just like the runners of Göteborgsvarvet. A place for recovery, snacks and drinks. Here you can enjoy the moment and your performance.

Registration
Registration is open until 12:00 on the day of the race, with reservation that the race may be sold out earlier. The maximum limit for Cityvarvet is 1500 registered participants. All registration are done via the website.

Start & Event area
The race starts at 1:00 PM at Götaplatsen on Avenyn. There will be music, warm-up activities, and plenty of spectators. All runners start together with one joint start signal.

Start certificate, Number bib & Bib distribution
Your start certificate will be sent to the email address you provided during registration approximately one week before the race. The start certificate contains your bib number and all necessary information ahead of the event.
You can collect your bib number Thursday–Saturday, May 21–23, at the Göteborgsvarvet Expo at Friidrottens Hus: Thursday: 11 AM–8 PM, Friday: 10 AM–9 PM, Saturday: from 9:30 AM
Please arrive in good time and remember to bring your start certificate. Please note that the Cityvarvet race starts at Götaplatsen in central Gothenburg, so make sure to collect your bib number at Friidrottens Hus well before the race starts.

Changing rooms, Bag drop & Toilets
At the start area at Götaplatsen, the bag drop is open until 12:30 PM. The bags will then be transported to Dalens Idrottsplan, located close to the finish area and shared with Göteborgsvarvet runners for bag drop. You can collect your belongings there after the race. Your bib number serves as your receipt when collecting your bag. Toilets are available in both the start and finish areas. Please note that changing facilities are not available at the start area.

Warmup exercises are available at the start and will be led by instructors from STC.

Timekeeping
Your time is recorded using an electronic chip attached to your bib number. The official time is your net time — measured from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish line. If you are an amateur, you don't need to crowd at the start.
Runners competing for a top-three position in the women’s or men’s category compete based on gross time. Gross time is measured from the start signal to the finish line, meaning the first runner across the finish line wins. For the best conditions, we recommend positioning yourself near the front at the start.

The prize ceremony will take place inside Slottsskogsvallen shortly after the top three finishers in the women’s and men’s categories have crossed the finish line.

Medal / Maximum time
All participants who complete Cityvarvet will receive a medal.
The time limit for Cityvarvet is 50 minutes. You must cross the finish line no later than 1:50 PM, when the finish area closes for Cityvarvet runners. Runners still on the course at that time may be required to stop, as the elite field of Göteborgsvarvet will be approaching the finish area.

Getting Here & Parking
We recommend travelling to the start by public transport. The nearest stops are Korsvägen, Berzeligatan, and Heden. Plan your journey in the Västtrafik ToGo app or at vasttrafik.se.
Please note that the city will be very busy on race day, so make sure to allow plenty of time regardless of how you choose to travel. Access by car will be heavily restricted throughout the city on May 23, so we strongly recommend leaving your car at home.
