The Göteborgsvarvet course takes you through the festival-vibrant Slottsskogen, along the beautiful quays of Hisingen, and past the buzzing energy of Avenyn.

Race course:21 km running experience
The course will take you through the best parts of Gothenburg. You’ll cross two bridges with amazing views of the archipelago and the city’s harbour, run along the city’s main boulevard, Avenyn, and finish at the historic Slottsskogsvallen arena!
Did we mention the 50 music stations along the route and the cheering crowd of over 200,000 spectators that will keep you energized throughout the race? Or the Runner’s Zone at the finish line with some well-deserved treats? And that’s just a part of the activities waiting for you in Gothenburg.

Add-ons Göteborgsvarvet: Make the race extra memorable
Order a personalized medal tag and/or a certificate to celebrate your achievement a little extra. You can add this option when registering or via My dashboard. Purchases are possible until 31 May 2026.
The items will be mailed to your home approximately one month after the race.

So much more than just one race:Varvet week 2027
Did you know that we arrange a wide variety of races during the week of Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon? In addition to the main half marathon, there’s also a shorter distance, races for kids, a relay for teams of four, and a race for runners with functional variations.
Specialvarvet
Specialvarvet is the competition for runners with functional variations. 2,4 kilometers or 1,4 kilometers course.
Stafettvarvet
A relay race for four runners through the beautiful Slottsskogen.

Göteborgsvarvet 21k
The world's largest half marathon. Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon is our classic 21k race held every year.
Cityvarvet
The best part of Göteborgsvarvet. The start is at Götaplatsen, and 4.3 kilometers later you cross the finish line at Slottsskogsvallen.
Minivarvet
The race for our youngest runners aged 0–6, who run a 210-meter course in Slottsskogen.
Lilla Varvet
Lilla Varvet is for children and youth aged 7–13, who run a course through Slottsskogen and finish at Slottsskogsvallen.

Göteborgsvarvet Expo
An expo and meeting place with running inspiration and everything you could possibly need before the start.
PAUSED
Trailvarvet/Trailvarvet WALK
Trailvarvet 11.5 km and Trailvarvet WALK 6 km will be paused for 2025–2026. We will provide an update later on whether Trailvarvet will return in 2027.
Göteborgsvarvet Family Area
Warmly welcome to Göteborgsvarvet’s Family Area on May 23–24. It will be packed with fun, running joy, activities, and entertainment for the whole family.

From 1,800 registered participants in 1980 to the world’s largest half marathon, a lot has happened in 45 years. Who has claimed victory, and what milestones have marked the races over the years?

For a Good Cause / Your Entry Fee Makes a Difference: Göteborgsvarvet is arranged for the benefit of the athletics activities
Göteborgsvarvet is arranged by the Göteborg Athletics Association to benefit athletics in the region. Around 3000 volunteers participate through affiliated clubs, and sports clubs from various disciplines also contribute to the event.
The primary purpose of Göteborgsvarvet is to generate a financial surplus to support a strong and sustainable club structure and to maintain the Friidrottens Hus training facility.
