Göteborgsvarvet Gives Back Even More with the Arvet Fund

Göteborgsvarvet and the Gothenburg Athletics Association are launching Arvet, a new initiative aimed at strengthening local athletics clubs and creating more opportunities for children, young people and elite athletes to develop and pursue their ambitions.

Since the very first Göteborgsvarvet in 1980, the event's surplus has always gone towards supporting sports clubs in Western Sweden. With Arvet, this commitment is taken one step further, creating new opportunities to bring support closer to the clubs and athletes themselves, with dedicated funding for initiatives based on their specific needs.

Arvet is made possible through a limited number of special race entries for Göteborgsvarvet. For every Arvet race entry sold, SEK 500 is allocated directly to the fund. The money is reinvested in athletics through initiatives that make a real difference: coaches and coaching education, training camps and competitions, equipment, and opportunities for young talents to take the next step in their development.

Unlike the support Göteborgsvarvet already provides each year, the Arvet Fund gives clubs and athletes the opportunity to identify their own needs and apply for funding. This could mean a small contribution that makes a big difference in everyday training or a larger investment that creates opportunities for many. In this way, support can be directed where it is needed most.

“What makes Arvet so special is that it brings together everything Göteborgsvarvet is really about. You run for yourself, but you're also part of an entire community of athletics clubs. I love the idea that a single race entry could help send a group of young athletes to a training camp, educate a coach or give talented athletes the chance to travel and compete. That's how we build the future of athletics, from one generation to the next,” says Anders Albertsson, Secretary General of the Gothenburg Athletics Association.

Göteborgsvarvet is about pushing beyond your own limits and being part of something bigger. Arvet is about keeping that momentum going. You're not just running for yourself. You're helping strengthen local athletics long after you've crossed the finish line.

Note: Arvet is an internal initiative by the Gothenburg Athletics Association and Göteborgsvarvet. Arvet race entries for Göteborgsvarvet 2027 will be released in October 2026 and offered exclusively to runners on the official waiting list. Declining an Arvet race entry will not affect your position on the waiting list. However, if you decline an offer for a regular race entry, you will lose your place in the queue.
