Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon 2020 is held 16th May 2020

Start groups

There are 31 start groups at Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon. Start group 1 starts at 1 pm. Each of the following groups will start at 2–6 minute intervals.

It is important that you start in the right group. You cannot change your start group or your race bib. Your start time and a map showing all start group locations are printed on your race bib and on your race confirmation. Read our seeding rules below.

You need to be at the start area at the latest 30 minutes before your start time.

Race area

The start of Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon is held on Margretebergsgatan and finish inside of the arena Slottsskogsvallen.

The course of Göteborgsvarvet

The distance is 21,097.5 Meters, a half marathon. The course is certified by an authorized IAAF course measurer. Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon takes you through places like Slottskogen, over the water of Göta Älv, alongside the beautiful Älvstranden, through the central parts of Gothenburg and back to the arena Slottskogsvallen. Alongside the race track is there a lot to experience!

Pick up you race bib at the Göteborgsvarvet Expo

You will receive your confirmation of registration by email before the race, it will also be available on My Page from the beginning of May. The confirmation will state your start number and start group.

Pick up your race bib at the Göteborgsvarvet Expo, Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre (Svenska Mässan) preferably on Thursday 14th of May, Friday 15th of May or Saturday 16th of May . Scan the QR-code on your confirmation of registration for free entry and to get your race bib printed out. Expect longer lines and waiting times if you decide to pick up your race bib on the day of the race). The race bib contains a chip that measures your time.

Plan how to get to the start and finish area

It’s easiest to use public transport to the start and finish area. On May 14th, 15h and 16th, your confirmation of registration can be used as a valid ticket on all forms of public transport in Gothenburg and Mölndal, including the commuter train to and from Alingsås, Ale, and Kungsbacka (14-16 May). Why not take a quick walk if your hotel is located close by?

  • Women: Frölundaborg next to Friidrottens Hus.
  • Men: Outside at the football field north of the start area (Dalens grusplan).
  • "Team Guld": Slottskogsvallen (behind the finish area).

Please do not leave any valuables in the changing rooms.

  • Women: On the grass field behind Friidrottens Hus.
  • Men: At the football field north of the start area (Dalens grusplan).

The top part of your race bib should be securely fastened to the baggage. The rest of the race bib is used to reclaim your baggage.

Opening hours: 10 am-7.30 pm, May 16th.

Fill in the medical information on the back of your race bib! Wear the race bib unfolded on your chest.

During the race

Water stations

Ten water stations are located on the right side of the course. There are four stations serving sports drink (on the first tables) and water. The remaining six stations will be serving only water.

At the finish line you will also find beverages, as well as fruit and chocolate.

Time measurement

The race bib contains a chip that measures your time. The official results will show your net time from the moment you pass the starting line to crossing the finish line. Split times at 5 km, 10 km, 15 km, and 20 km are also recorded.

If you are unable to finish

If you are unable to finish the race then there will be buses and taxis from Taxi Göteborg at the water stations that will take you to the finish area. If you feel sick or ill in any way, for example if you stop sweating, feel weak, dizzy and nauseous or experience chest pains, stop running immediately! If you don’t feel better within five to ten minutes, seek medical advice.

Maximal time

The finish line closes at 7:00 pm. In order to keep traffic flowing in central Gothenburg the cut-off time will be at 5:40 pm (after 13.3 km) at Frihamnsmotet. Runners that don’t make it before the cut off will be transported to the finish area.

Free race photos

Along the course there will be photographers taking pictures of the runners. To download your photos you need your PICA-code, you can find your personal code on your race bib or on My Pages. Visit after the race to download your photos.

After the race

Give yourself a well deserved after run treatment

All runners will have the opportunity to get a free massage after the race in the finish area. Post-race snacks will also be handed-out which will include organic bananas and organic coffee.

Finishing medal

All runners who cross the finish line will receive a Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon medal. The medal is designed by a student at the Academy of Design and Arts in Gothenburg. Top finishers will receive their prizes at Slottsskogsvallen at about 2:30 pm after the race on May 16th.

It’s easy to find the results of our different races. The results of Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon are published live directly on our web site. You can also receive split times and results to your mobile phone (Swedish operator only).


Göteborgsvarvet Keepsake

A popular keepsake from the Göteborgsvarvet is our diploma which includes your name, ranking, split times, finish time. The diploma costs 65 SEK. You can also make a personal medal pin with your name and finish time that you attach to the medal band. The personalized medal pin costs 95 SEK. You order both the diploma and the medal pin from My pages and it is sent to you after the race (June and August).

Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon aims to be at the forefront in protecting the environment and working towards a more sustainable event. Thanks to our hard work and efforts we are ISO 20121 certified. In our sustainability efforts we have already made quite a number of changes that have reduced our carbon footprint and negative effect on the environment and climate change.

During the Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon Week, here’s what you can do as a runner or spectator to help us in our efforts:
• Recycle your garbage and waste – make sure to choose the proper or appropriate bin.
• Choose an eco-labeled hotel, we recommend Gothia Towers.
• Choose one of our vegetarian food options at the start/finish area.
• Choose the most environmentally friendly alternative for transportation to and from the race. Remember public transportation is free for all runners from Thursday-Saturday during the Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon Week (use race bib or confirmation of registration sheet as valid tickets).

Expo:Göteborgsvarvet Expo

Welcome to the national meeting place for sport and health. The fair, Göteborgsvarvet Expo, will be located at the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre at Korsvägen in Gothenburg. At the Göteborgsvarvet Expo you’ll find a wide selection of the latest trends, sport products and activities, including training and health for all ages. This is also where you will pick-up your race bib. As a registered runner you’ll receive four free passes to Göteborgsvarvet Expo that you can give to friends and family.
