Kipru­to and Asse­fa win­ners of Göte­borgsvarvet 2022

The run­ners were back and tens of thou­sands spec­ta­tors were back on the streets of Gothen­burg as the half marathon race Göte­borgsvarvet was arranged again. Amos Kipru­to from Kenya and Tigist Asse­fa from Ethiopia were todays winners.

In the mens class there was a fight between the Kenyans Amos Kipruto and Titus Kimutai and Kipruto was able to get the advantage before entering the track on Slottsskogsvallen. He won the race at the time 1:00:50.

– I am really happy that I won this race as I finished second the last time I was here, 2017. I am looking forward to come back next year to defend the title, he says.

It was a Kenyan triple at the podium as Josphat Kemei passed the finish line as numer three.

While Kenya dominated the mens class, Ethiopia took care of the medals in the women’s class. Tigist Assefa won the race at 01:08:20 after a though fight against Tiruye Mesfin (01:08:25) and Aminet Ahmed (01:08.26).

Beforehand the course records were challenged as the weather conditions were good, the new, lower bridge and the starting fields very strong. However, Richard Mengich (59:55, 2016) and Fancy Chemutai (1:07:58, 2017) are still the record holders.

The best Swedish runners were Samuel Russom (1:02:28) and Hanna Lindholm (1.13.19), they both finished at tenth place in the men’s and women’s classes.
