The Best Marathon Runners in the Nordics Ready for Göteborgsvarvet 2025!

Göteborgsvarvet 2025 is set to be one of the most spectacular races in history as the four best marathon runners from the Nordics come to Gothenburg. Spectators can look forward to an epic showdown when Sondre Nordstad Moen (Norway), Jacob Sommer Simonsen (Denmark), Zerei Kbrom Mzengi (Norway), and local favorite Suldan Hassan (Sweden) take to the streets of Gothenburg to determine who is the fastest in the Nordics.

With its rich history and iconic course, Göteborgsvarvet has grown into one of the world’s largest half-marathons, and this year’s edition promises to be one of the most exciting yet. The race will offer a unique opportunity to witness some of Scandinavia’s top long-distance runners in action.

A Historic Duel

These four athletes have all made their mark on the international marathon scene, setting Nordic records across various distances. With impressive personal bests and experience from the Olympics, World Championships, and major marathons worldwide, the battle for victory at Göteborgsvarvet 2025 will be a world-class competition.

Suldan Hassan recently impressed once again, setting a new Swedish marathon record of 2:05:57 at the Tokyo Marathon last Sunday, finishing 8th. This result improved his own Swedish record by 1 minute and 39 seconds from the 2024 Seville Marathon, and now he looks forward to competing on home soil.

- It will be incredibly exciting to race against some of the best runners in the Nordics at such a fantastic event as Göteborgsvarvet. I’m really looking forward to it and hope to be in contention for the win. I also believe that the city and the amazing atmosphere will carry me through the course. I’ve felt it before when I was a pacer at Göteborgsvarvet, but this time, I think it will be even bigger,” says local star Suldan Hassan.

- We wanted a new spark, and with so many great runners in the Nordics, we thought it would be amazing to bring them together for this race. And everyone was on board from the start,” say Lovisa Lindh and Jasper Buitink, elite coordinators for Göteborgsvarvet.
