Leave the car at home - Use muscle power, not motor power

Once again there will be significant traffic disruptions due to several ongoing construction projects in our growing city. Therefore, we kindly ask you to leave your car behind and instead use alternative modes of transportation on May 17th. Together, we can make it easier for each other and for emergency services personnel who may need to navigate through the city.

In the link below, you'll find information on how to get to the race by bus, bicycle, or on foot. If you still need to use your car, there's also information about parking areas outside the city with connecting public transportation/shuttle buses.

Remember to be out in good time!

How to get to the start - Traffic information

Via public transportation
The nearest stop to the race bib distribution at Göteborgsvarvets EXPO is Margretebergsgatan or alternatively Linnéplatsen.

The nearest stop to the start is Korsvägen, Berzeligatan or Heden.

You can find information about public transportation on May 17th on Västtrafik's website. Plan your journey using Västtrafik's app 'To Go' or through the journey planner, which can help you plan your route for cycling and walking as well.

Relatives who want to go directly to the finish area are recommended to take the tram or bus to the Marklandsgatan or Linnéplatsen stops. The area around the finish line will be closed to car traffic on May 17th.

Take part of the running world's latest trends among all our fantastic exhibitors, here is everything you might need before the start. This is also where you will find the bib distribution. Free entrance for everyone. Welcome to a world-class experience!

How to get here
The area around Göteborgsvarvet Expo will be heavily restricted for car traffic as a lot of people are expected during the days. Parking facilities directly adjacent to Friidrottens Hus are unfortunately not available.

The best way to get to Göteborgsvarvet Expo is by public transport, cycling or walking.

Number bib distribution
We recommend everyone who has the opportunity to pick up their license plate already on Thursday or Friday. To avoid queues, we also encourage this to be done during the day. If you pick up your bib on Saturday, we recommend doing so well in advance of the start time, as there will be a lot people in the area, and you need to make it to the starting line at 1:00 p.m. in central Gothenburg.

Friday May 16: 10:00 am - 9:00 pm.
Saturday, May 17: 9:00 am - 4:15 pm.

Course
Cityvarvet's course is 4.3 km long and the start takes place at Götaplatsen, in the center of Gothenburg. There will be music and entertainment all the way along. The course then goes down the avenue, into Vasagatan, along Övre Husargatan, through Slottsskogen and on to the finish at the classic Slottsskogsvallen. For perfect synergy the finish for Cityvarvet, takes place at Göteborgsvarvet.

Timing
Timing is done electronically according to your race bib. The time starts when you cross the start line and stops when you cross the finish line.

For those who want to compete for top 3 placement in each age group, we will instead compete with gross time. Therefore, we recommend that you place yourself a far forward as at possible the start for the best conditions, as the gross time is based on start - finish. So the first to cross the finish line wins!

Hydration stations
Cityvarvet has two hydration stations along the course, one of which offers sports drink. You’ll also receive water at the start and after the finish.

Medical care
Medical care is available at several locations along the course and in the start and finish area.

Music
For maximum motivation during the race, there will be several live bands, DJs, and partner zones along the course.

Toilets
Toilets are available in addition to the start and finish area, at all hydration stations.

Runners zone
A well-deserved medal and banana await you, as always, after the finish line in the Runners Zone inside Slottsskogsvallen. It's a place for recovery, snacks, drinks, a finisher photo at our photo wall, and massage. Here, you can soak in the moment, talk about the race with fellow runners, and congratulate each other on an amazing achievement.

Registration for Göteborgsvarvet 2026!
Inside the Runners Zone, there will be a registration portal for Göteborgsvarvet 2026. If you pass through the portal, you’ll receive an email offer to register for Göteborgsvarvet 2026 for only SEK 649 – our absolute lowest price (regular early bird fee is SEK 695 until May 31).

Walking through the portal does not mean you are registered. You confirm and pay for your registration via the offer email, which will be sent within 24 hours after the race. The offer is valid until May 31, 2025.

Massage
The massage service is available as usual, free of charge, after crossing the finish line.

Medal
Everyone who completes the Cityvarvet gets a medal.

Award ceremony
Prizes will be awarded to the top three fastest runners in each age group: F/P15, F/P17, F/P19, Women, and Men. The prize ceremony will take place inside Slottsskogsvallen immediately after the top three finishers in each age group have crossed the finish line.

Max time
The Maximum time to complete Cityvarvet is 50 minutes. You need to cross the finish line no later than 1:50 p.m which is when the finish line closes for all Cityvarvet's runners. If runners are still on the course, they may have to abandon their race as the elite field of Göteborgsvarvet will be entering the finish area.

Intermediate times and end times are updated live and can be found here or in our app – Göteborgsvarvet.

Please note – no bags allowed!
By decision of the Swedish Police Authority, bags will not be allowed inside Slottsskogsvallen on May 17. We urge all runners to leave their bags at the official bag drop at Götaplatsen. Hydration belts or hydration backpacks worn during the race and into the finish area are not included in the ban.

If you have family or friends planning to watch the finish inside Slottsskogsvallen, please inform them that bags will not be permitted. Exceptions to the ban will be made for medical needs and diaper bags. These bags will be subject to inspection at the entrance. Please note that there is no bag storage available for spectators.

Toilets
Available right after the Runners Zone, outside Slottsskogsvallen, and in the entrance park.

Shower facilities
Shower facilities are available in close proximity to the finish line.

• Travel by train/public transportation to the event.
• Sort your litter and throw it in the correct bin at the designated place.
• At the water stations along the track - throw your mugs into the white "big bags".

Organizer
The race is organized by the Gothenburg Athletics Association. The surplus goes back to the federation's associations and their youth activities, as well as the operation of Friidrottens Hus. Each year Göteborgsvarvet also collects approximately SEK 1 million for our charity partners.
