Leave the car at home
It’s finally time for race weekend! Cityvarvet and Göteborgsvarvet will once again fill the streets of Gothenburg with runners and spectators. The area around the Göteborgsvarvet Expo will have heavily restricted car access during race week, and traffic throughout large parts of the city will be affected on May 23.

The fastest and easiest way to get to bib collection and the race is by walking, cycling, or using public transport.

Please make sure to allow plenty of time regardless of how you choose to travel.

Public transport, cycling & walking
Information about public transport on May 23 is available on the Västtrafik website. Plan your journey using the Västtrafik “To Go” app or the travel planner, which can also help you plan routes for cycling and walking.

Race bib collection
The nearest stop for race bib collection at the Göteborgsvarvet Expo is Marklandsgatan.

Start
The nearest stops for the start area are Korsvägen, Berzeligatan, and Heden.
Address: Götaplatsen

Finish
Family and friends travelling directly to the finish area are recommended to use public transport to Marklandsgatan. The finish area will be closed to car traffic on May 23.

Discover the latest trends in the running world among our fantastic exhibitors — everything you could possibly need before race day can be found here. This is also where race bib collection takes place. Admission is free for everyone.

Getting here
The best way to get to the Göteborgsvarvet Expo is by public transport, bicycle, or on foot.

The area around the Göteborgsvarvet Expo will have heavily restricted car access due to the large number of visitors expected during the event days, and unfortunately there is no parking available directly adjacent to Friidrottens Hus.

Race bib collection
We encourage everyone who has the opportunity to collect their race bib during daytime hours on Thursday, May 21 or Friday, May 22, to avoid queues.

If you collect your bib on Saturday, May 23, we strongly recommend doing so well before your start time. Please remember that the Cityvarvet race starts in central Gothenburg.

Course
The Cityvarvet course is 4.3 km long and starts at Götaplatsen in the heart of Gothenburg. Music and entertainment will be available in the start area. The course then continues down Avenyn, onto Vasagatan, along Övre Husargatan, through Slottsskogen, and finishes at the iconic Slottsskogsvallen stadium. Göteborgsvarvet start waves will begin while Cityvarvet runners are finishing their race.

Course map

Timing
Your time is recorded electronically using a timing chip attached to your bib number. Your net time is measured from when you cross the start line until you cross the finish line.

For runners competing for a top-three position in the women’s or men’s category, gross time applies instead. Gross time is measured from the start signal to the finish line, meaning the first runner across the finish line wins. Therefore, runners aiming for a top position are recommended to line up near the front at the start for the best possible conditions.

Time limit
The time limit for Cityvarvet is 50 minutes. You must cross the finish line no later than 1:50 PM, when the finish area closes for Cityvarvet runners. Runners still on the course at that time may be required to stop, as the elite field of Göteborgsvarvet will be approaching the finish area.

Hydration stations
Cityvarvet has two hydration stations along the course, one of which serves sports drink. Water will also be available at the start and after the finish.

Sustainability
Please dispose of litter only at the hydration stations along the course.

Medical services
Medical stations staffed with healthcare personnel and defibrillators are available at every hydration station along the course, as well as at Brunnsgatan and in the start and finish areas. A defibrillator is also available at the Information Center in the Slottsskogsvallen entrance park (between the Göteborgsvarvet start and finish areas).

Music
For maximum motivation during the race, several live bands, DJs, and partner zones will be located along the course.

Toilets
Toilets are available in the start and finish areas, as well as after every hydration station.

Runners Zone
A well-earned medal and bananas await you after the finish line in the Runners Zone inside Slottsskogsvallen. A place for recovery, snacks, drinks, photos in front of our photo wall, or to ring the Celsius PB bell. This is where you should enjoy the moment, talk about the race with other runners, and congratulate each other on a fantastic achievement.

Meeting Point – New for 2026!
It is a good idea to decide on a meeting point with family and friends before the race starts. A great option is our clearly marked meeting points A, B & C on Stubbeledsgatan, directly across the road from Frölundaborg. The meeting points are marked on the left side of the arena map.

Registration for 2027!
Want to run the full Göteborgsvarvet next year? Inside the Runners Zone, you will find a registration portal for Göteborgsvarvet 2027. If you pass through the portal, you will receive an email offer to register for Göteborgsvarvet 2027 with SEK 100 off the regular entry fee.

Passing through the portal is not binding, and you will NOT automatically be registered. The offer email will be sent within 24 hours after the race, and your registration will only be valid once payment has been completed and you have received a participant confirmation for Göteborgsvarvet 2027. The offer is valid until May 31, 2026.

After Run
Just outside the Runners Zone in the entrance park, you will find the Göteborgsvarvet Food Court operated by Carotte. Carotte serves both hot and cold food, drinks, coffee, and energy-boosting snacks. The area is open from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM for both runners and spectators.

Medal
All participants who complete Cityvarvet will receive a medal.

Prize Ceremony
Prizes will be awarded to the three fastest runners in the women’s and men’s categories. The prize ceremony will take place inside Slottsskogsvallen shortly after the top three women and men have crossed the finish line.

Split times and results are updated live and can be found here — or in our app, Göteborgsvarvet.

Bag Pick-Up
If you checked in a bag at the start area, it will be transported to Dalens Idrottsplan, the same bag collection area used by Göteborgsvarvet runners. You can collect your belongings there after the race. Bag collection is open until 7:40 PM. Your bib number serves as your receipt when collecting your bag.

Toilets
Toilets are available just after the Runners Zone outside Slottsskogsvallen, as well as in the entrance park.

Organizer
The race is organized by the Gothenburg Athletics Association. The surplus goes back to the federation's associations and their youth activities, as well as the operation of Friidrottens Hus. Each year Göteborgsvarvet also collects approximately SEK 1 million for our charity partners.
