Göteborgsvarvet 2027 is sold out with a starting field made up of 48% women

It is now confirmed that Göteborgsvarvet 2027 is fully booked. In just a few days, all entries for the world’s largest half marathon were sold out, making it the earliest sold-out race in the event’s history.

The interest in next year’s race has been exceptionally high, and registrations have been pouring in since registration opened in connection with this year’s Göteborgsvarvet. Another record is the number of registered women, which reached an all-time high this Saturday. For the 2027 edition, the gender distribution is expected to become even more balanced, with the current field consisting of 48% women.

– We are truly overwhelmed and grateful for the enormous interest in Göteborgsvarvet. We have worked purposefully both to develop the overall race experience and to achieve a more gender-balanced field. That is why we are very pleased with the position we have now reached, which is also an important confirmation of the work that has been done. It is the best recognition we could receive, says Madelene Gimlegård, Commercial Director of Göteborgsvarvet.

Every year, participants from all over the world gather to run through the streets of Gothenburg in front of hundreds of thousands of spectators. The race has grown into one of Sweden’s largest recurring public events and attracts both experienced runners and people running their very first half marathon.

– There is something truly special about the atmosphere during Göteborgsvarvet. The whole city gets involved, creating an energy that is hard to find anywhere else, says Madelene Gimlegård.

For everyone who has not yet secured a spot, Göteborgsvarvet will within the next few days open an official waiting list where already registered runners can transfer their race entry to those standing in line.

– We know there are still many people hoping for the chance to run next year, and that is why we will soon open a waiting list, says Madelene Gimlegård.

Göteborgsvarvet 2027 will take place on May 22 next year. All surplus goes to support local sports clubs and associations.
