Record-breaking start for Göteborgsvarvet 2027 – more than 29,000 already registered
Just two days after this year’s major celebration, interest in next year’s Göteborgsvarvet is higher than ever. Since registration opened on Saturday, more than 29,000 runners have already secured their place in the world’s largest half marathon in 2027 – and for the first time ever, with a perfectly even split between men and women.
“It’s absolutely fantastic to see the tremendous interest in running and Göteborgsvarvet. That more than 29,000 people have already signed up after just two days is incredible. Even more encouraging is that the current split between men and women is 50/50,” says Madelene Gimlegård, Commercial Director of Göteborgsvarvet.
Since its inception in 1980, Göteborgsvarvet has grown into one of the world’s most appreciated half marathons, attracting runners from around the globe to Gothenburg every spring. The combination of a festive atmosphere, the city’s energy, and the experience along the course continues to appeal to both new and returning participants.
“Göteborgsvarvet is about so much more than 21 kilometres. It’s the feeling along the entire course, the people, the music, and the sense of community that make so many want to come back year after year. It’s a true celebration that engages the entire city,” says Gimlegård.
The organisers encourage anyone who wants to run next year to register early.
“We know that many runners plan their running year around Göteborgsvarvet, and with the current registration pace, our advice is to sign up quickly. It looks like we are going to sell out in record time,” says Gimlegård.
