New and exciting pilot project in 2023!

Notpla, the UK-based packaging company that is making a splash at the upcoming Gothenburg half marathon with their innovative product, Ooho — will be replacing over 20,000 single-use plastic cups at the race.

That's right, Notpla's Ooho will be providing runners with an easy and sustainable way to hydrate on-the-go. And with its unique design and fully edible nature, Ooho offers runners a unique experience while helping us all protect the environment by replacing single-use plastic.

Notpla is dedicated to creating truly sustainable packaging solutions made out of seaweed. And their products, designed to replicate nature’s life-cycle, disappear naturally. Giving consumers the convenience of single-use without any plastic waste.

Made from seaweed, one of nature's most sustainable resources, Ooho is the perfect sustainable hydration alternative for sporting events. It's easy to use – just grab one, pop it in your mouth, and enjoy a quick burst of hydration. And don’t worry, if not eaten, Ooho will biodegrade within 4-6 weeks without leaving behind any microplastics or waste for centuries.

Notpla has already made a mark in the world through its participation in major sporting events, replacing 38,000 plastic bottles at the Zevenheuvelenloop and 36,000 at the London Marathon. But the impact of Notpla’s Ooho goes beyond just sporting events. It's an innovative solution to the single-use plastic problem that has gained traction around, being used by the hospitality industry and major sporting retailers like Decathlon. We live in one of the most sustainable cities in the world - it’s just a perfect match and we cannot wait to be a part of this movement and collaborate with Notpla at Göteborgsvarvet.

Linn Färjhage, Sustainability & Sponsor Activations at Göteborgsvarvet, says, "Our bold vision of being world-leading in sustainability means we need to be creative and work proactively to find new possibilities. We are very excited over this collaboration and if the outcome shows to be as positive as we believe – Ooho might lead our way towards a future minimising our waste when it comes to single-use items."

Our collaboration with Notpla is a great example of how innovation and sustainability can come together in an easy, effective and exciting way. And with the popularity of sporting events around the world, solutions like Ooho have the potential to make a significant impact and get rid of plastic waste, or as put by Notpla, make plastic packaging disappear.

Pierre Paslier, co-founder and co-CEO of Notpla, explains, "Our collaboration with Göteborgsvarvet is bringing the sport community together around a sustainable and engaging product to hydrate runners, opening the doors to plastic-free sport events."

So look out for the Notpla volunteers handing out Ooho with a blue vest both at the pre-race exhibition on Friday the 12th and at the race on Saturday 13th. You won’t want to miss out on the innovative solution to single-use plastic pollution. Not only will it quench your thirst with an orange electrolyte mix, but it'll also help protect the planet. And that's a winning combination.
