Première for Rosa Varvet in September
On September 2nd, the Rosa Varvet kicks off – a race that Göteborgsvarvet organizes together with the Breast Cancer Association to raise awareness about breast cancer. The race is 5 kilometers and open to both runners and walkers.
It has long been clear that the first edition of Göteborgsvarvet Marathon will take place on the first Sunday in September as part of the 400th anniversary celebration of Gothenburg. However, it is not the only race that will have a start and finish in Slottsskogen the weekend. On Saturday, September 2 the Rosa Varvet will be held. Which is a collaboration between the Göteborgsvarvet and the Breast Cancer Association.
50 SEK per every registered participant goes directly to the Breast Cancer Association. Fundraising for the Breast Cancer Association will also take place during the event.
- We are proud that Göteborgsvarvet has chosen us as a charity partner. Every hour a woman receives the news of breast cancer, a news that also affects family and loved ones. Göteborgsvarvet´s commitment and all the runners who contribute will be a strong force in out important work to fight breast cancer, says the Breast Cancer Association´s general secretary Marit Jenset.
Breast center Sahlgrenska, which is one of the initiators of the Rosa Varvet:
- There are similar races in several places in Europe and we see very positively that awareness and knowledge about breast cancer is spread in this way, says Karolina Larsson who is an oncologist and Center Director for the Breast Center and Jenny Heiman, surgeon and section head for Breast and- Melanoma Surgery.

- The majority of us know someone who has been affected by breast cancer and we are all affected in some way. To impliment something so meaningful feels important to our organization and we are proud of this new collaboration. Togheter with the Breast Cancer Association, we can inform and spread knowledge about the disease and the importance on continuosusly examining breast from early age.
- We are looking forward to a wonderful running party where we run together for a good cause. It should be a race with a focus on health, community and running joy.
