Welcome to Göteborgsvarvet 2024!
We are so happy that you chose to run with us this year. Every competitor and spectator are valued members of the Göteborgsvarvet community who all come together as one every year to enjoy the simple pleasure of running. Good luck from the entire team and thank you for contributing to local grassroots sports. We couldn’t achieve our sporting goals without your efforts.

Start time and wave times
When: 18th of May
Start from: 13:00 - 16:00
Where from: Margretebergsgatan close to Slottsskogsvallen

You will find your starting wave and starting time in the email/start certificate that was sent to the email address given upon registering.

Start waves
It is very important that you start in the correct wave as these have been allocated carefully according to you predicted finishing time. This also allows for the appropriate number of competitors to enter the course to make it safe for other runners. If you switch to an earlier wave which is not yours, you will be disqualified from the race.

If however, you want to run with a friend and you are in an earlier wave, it is always allowed to move to a start wave further back. You may do so without contacting us and it won’t effect your result. You can find a map of the start area with start waves and start times at the bottom of the page. Bib Pick-up
Your bib number can be picked up at the Göteborgsvarvet Expo which is open 16 – 18 May and is located at Friidrottens Hus. We recommend that everyone who has the opportunity, do so on Thursday or Friday to avoid queues. We also recommend that you do it during the day.

On Saturday, your bib number can be picked up at designated slot times based on your start wave, in order to guarantee everyone makes it to the start on time. Please note that slot times are only a recommendation and only apply to pickup times on Saturday. However, we would like to point out that in the event that you pick up your bib after your slot time, we cannot guarantee that you will make it to your start group on time. If you miss your start time, it is allowed to start in a later group. See picture for slot times.

Show the QR code that you find in your personal start certificate to get your number tag printed. Feel free to take a printscreen of your QR code to make it easier to pick up. It is possible to pick up the bib for a friend as long as you have their QR code with you. The Expo is open during the following times:

Thursday: 11am - 9pm
Friday: 10am - 9pm
Saturday: 8am - 4pm (Bib pick-up closes at 3 pm).

Charity runners: Charity runners collect the race bib at a separate Charity counter at the Expo. This to receive a pink race bib as well as an associated sticker for the organization you have chosen to run for.

Team Gold-runners: Corporate client/sponsor with the Team Gold package collect the race bib at a separate Team Gold counter at the Expo. This to receive a golden race bib that gives access to the Team Gold area at the Sport center in Slottsskogsvallen.

Bag storage and changing of clothes
Changing is not provided in the arena. We therefore recommend that you arrive changed and ready to run!

Bag storage is available at Dalen's gravel area. Opening hours May 18 between 10 – 19:30. Along with your race bib, you'll receive a bag tag which is attached to the bag, and the bib number is valid as a receipt upon collection. Additionally, there is a valuables storage area for keys, mobile phones, etc.

Please note that it is not permitted to leave clothes near the start or elsewhere in the event area. Any clothes that are still left behind will be collected and donated to local charitiees.

All clothes/bags that you want to take home with you must be left in the Bag Storage or with friends and familiy prior to entry.

Team Gold-runners: Through the golden bib, Team Gold-runners have access to the Team Gold area at the Sport center in Slottsskogsvallen. The Team Gold area is open both before and after the race and has its own bag drop-off, changing room and showers. Light refreshments are also offered in connection with the changing room.

New for this year - bag ban in Slottsskogsvallen
By decision of the Police Authority, there is a total ban on bags inside Slottsskogvallen arena on 18 May. We recommend all runners to hand in their bag in our bag drop-off at Dalen´s gravel area. Hydration belts/hydration backpacks that runners carry on the course and into the finish area at Slottskogsvallen are not covered by the bag ban.

If you have family or friends who plan to watch the finish inside Slottsskogsvallen, they need to leave their bags at home. Exceptions to the bag ban are made for medical reasons and the need for a diaper bag.

Toilets
Toilets are available at several locations at the start and finish area. There are also toilets in the area with free menstrual pads.

Warm-up
The Warm-up is led by instructors from STC and takes place before the start for all start waves. Enjoy!

Get to the start

A car-free day - Use muscle power, not engine power
Finally time again, the Göteborgsvarvet will once again fill Gothenburg's streets with runners and spectators. This year there will have a greater impact on traffic than usual as several extensive works are underway in our growing city. Therefore, we ask you to park your car during the Göteborgsvarvet and instead use alternative means of travel on May 18. Together, we can make it easier for each other and for police and emergency staff who may need to get around.

Below you will find information on how to get to Göteborgsvarvet by bus, bicycle or on foot. If you still need to take the car, there is also information about parking spaces outside the city with connecting public transport/shuttle buses.

Remember to start early regardless of how you get to the Göteborgsvarvet.

With public transportation
Public transport routes will be changed on Saturday and reinforced both before and after the Göteborgsvarvet race. You can find information about how public transport runs on 18 May on Västtrafik's website. Plan your trip in Västtrafik's app "To Go" or via the journey planner that helps you plan your route also for cycling and walking. The app also provides information about which buses/trams are accessible.

It is NOT possible to travel for free with your number bib on Västtrafik's buses/trams.

Getting to/from the start with public transportation
The nearest stop to the Start at Margretebergsgatan is Marklandsgatan, alternatively Linnéplatsen. Major stops that connect to Marklandsgatan are Korsvägen, Drottningtorget and Järntorget.

Styr & Ställ Cykel - Easy and cheap rental bike all over the city
Styr & Ställ are the city's rental bikes that are available in several places around central Gothenburg. In order to rent a Styr & Ställ bike, you need to register and buy a ticket. You can do this easily in the Nextbike app or on Styr & Ställ's website. More information on how to use Styr & Ställ can be found here. (Note, the site is in Swedish)

Please note that the Styr & Ställ stops Slottsskogsgatan and Dalen's sports field will be closed during the Göteborgsvarvet. Updated information about closed and possibly full stops can be found in the app - Nextbike.

Your own bike
Trafiken.nu helps you plan your cycling trip, with information on cycle paths, bicycle parking, pumps and also on Styr & Ställ.

Plan your trip well and have plenty of time. Keep in mind that there will be limited access and a lot of people, show respect for pedestrians.

It is not possible to ride bike through Slottsskogen or on Margretebergsgatan during Saturday.

Shuttle bus
Commuter parking is available at Åby Arena. Search for parking in the Parkster app. Adjacent to the car park is Åby Arena. From here, our partner Bergkvarabuss will run shuttle buses on May 18 to the starting area with the first departure at 08.00 AM. The buses are free and marked with Göteborgsvarvet. Relatives can ride on the bus, if the buses are full, runners who are going to run the Göteborgsvarvet have priority.

The route goes via Högsbo Industrial Area and stops at the stops: Jolengatan, Otto Elanders gata, A Odhners gata, Olof Asklunds gata, J A Wettergrens gata. Parking spaces in Högsbo industrial area are available but limited. From there you can walk in about 15-35 minutes or take the shuttle bus from the above stops.

You pay for parking according to the regular parking regulations, e.g. via Parkster's app or in any vending machine.

The last departure from the finish area back to Åby Arena via Högsbo Industrial area depart at 19.30. The buses stop/depart from a temporary bus stop near Margretebergsmotet/Botaniska. All shuttle buses are adapted for accessibility. Once back in Åby after the race, you can shower in Friskis & Svettis’ clean premises in Åby Arena.

Göteborgsvarvet EXPO

Göteborgsvarvet Expo can be found in Friidrottens Hus, Mikael Ljungbergs väg 10 between May 16-18. A meeting place for training and health.

Take part of the running world's latest trends among all our fantastic exhibitors, here is everything you might need before the start. This is also where you will find the bib distribution. Free entrance for everyone. Welcome to a world-class experience!

How to get here
The area around Göteborgsvarvet Expo will be heavily restricted for car traffic as a lot of people are expected during the days. Parking facilities directly adjacent to Friidrottens Hus are unfortunately not available.

The best way to get to Göteborgsvarvet Expo is by public transport, cycling or walking.

Number bib distribution
We recommend everyone who has the opportunity to pick up their bib already on Thursday or Friday. To avoid queues, we also encourage this to be done during the day. On Saturday, bibs are recommended to be picked up at designated slot times based on your start wave, in order to guarantee everyone makes it to the start on time. Se slottimes here.

Opening hours:
Thursday, May 16: 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Friday May 17: 10 a.m - 9 p.m.
Saturday, May 18: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Bib distribution closes at 3 p.m.)

Bags
We would like to encourage everyone visiting EXPO to avoid bringing large luggage into the fair. Bags brought into EXPO may be searched by security guards. Thank you for your consideration.

During the race

The Course
A half marathon of 21 km where you pass 10 stages through the streets of Gothenburg. See map sketch or read more about the course and the stages here.

Timing
Timing takes place electronically, so you don't have to queue up to get a good position at the start. Your timing chip is fixed to the back of your race bib when issued.

Keep to the right
If you want to take it a little more calmly during the race, try to keep to the right as the left part of the course is designated an overtaking lane.

Please note that runners share the course with wheelchair participants and they can sometimes reach high speeds on downhill slopes.

It is important to be aware of your surroundings on the course so please take care at all times.

Pulling out of the race and maximum time
If you are forced to pull out of the race, there is transportation by bus from the hydration stations back to the start and finish area. The finish area closes at 7 p.m. The race has cut-off times at Frihamnspiren at 5:45 p.m (14 km) and Nordstan at 6:05 p.m. (15 km).

If runners are not deemed to reach the finish line before 7 p.m., the organizer, in consultation with the authorities, has the right to ask runners to leave the course to allow traffic to resume according to schedule.

Hydration stations
There are 9 water stations along the course, 4 of which are also supplied with energy drinks. Read more about energy drink ingredients and where hydration is served here.

Showers along the track
Along the track there are 10 "showers" you can run through to cool off.

Medical services
Medical stations are are placed at several locations along the course and in the start and finish area.

Music
For maximum excitement during the race, there are no less than 50 troubadours, DJs, entertainment, partners and bands along the course for your enjoyment.

Toilets
Available in the start and finish area, and also at all water stations along the course.

If friends/family want to follow your progress they can do so in our app "Göteborgsvarvet" which is available for download in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (android).

Be aware that the app was recently updated for the 2024 race. If you already have the app downloaded then please update according to your devices settings to ensure there will be live updates at intermediate stages and finishes.

When the app is updated, go into the app and click on the “gear” in the top right corner and then click on Timing and News so that they are checked. Then updates will come live for the runners added as Favorites, at intermediate time passes and finishes.

To follow runners; click on "Follow your friends - Results & Favorites" and search for the person you want to follow. For SEK 40 you can follow up to 25 runners at the same time. Click (+) and a runner will be added as a Favorite.

In order for them to be able to follow your exact position during the race, you need to register with your Registration ID + surname in the app at "Start live-tracking - My Race" You also need to start tracking in the app at the start of the race. You can find your Registration ID in the start certificate email.

If a friend wants to follow you and you have not registered your registration ID/started tracking during the race, your friend will see your split times and results live, as well as see the estimated time for the next split stage and estimated position, but not your exact position on the course.

Live broadcast via webb-TV and radio

GP live broadcast.
Göteborgsposten broadcasts the race live at 12.45-4.45 pm on 18 May. Follow the broadcast before, during and after the lap at gp.se/varvet. (Site in Swedish)

GP gives you everything you need before, during and after Göteborgsvarvet.
The week before, you as a subscriber will be able to read reports and interviews with interesting people and experts. During the race, GP will broadcast more than three hours of live TV from all over the city, focusing on both the elite race and the folk festival - the broadcast will be open to everyone. The large slideshow with pictures from all over the city will also be open for everyone to check out. And if you're a subscriber and want to see yourself or your loved ones making their way around the 21-kilometer course, our three neighborhood cameras and the finish line camera are available to watch. These cameras will be live during Varvet but also available to watch afterwards at gp.se/varvet

Radio
You can also participate in the folk festival via radio on Mix Megapol.

At the finish

Runners Zone
Once your cross the finish line you will recieve a hero’s welcome, and the famous Göteborgsvarvet medal will be placed deservedly round you neck. You’ve made it. You completed the 21km course and all your training has been worth it.

Make your way to the Runners Zone inside the Slottsskogsvallen - A place for recovery, snacks, drinks, finisher photos in our selfie station and massage. Here you can also enjoy the moment, discuss the race with other runners or congratulate each other on a fantastic performance.

Registration 2025!
Inside the Runners Zone, there will be a registration portal for Göteborgsvarvet 2025. If you pass under the portal, you'll receive an offer via email to register for Göteborgsvarvet 2025 for only 595 SEK, our absolute lowest price (regular lowest registration fee 695 SEK until August 31).

Your registration is not binding if you go through the portal. You confirm and pay for the registration via an offer email sent within one day after the race. The offer is valid until May 31, 2024.

Massage
The massage service is free of charge for all runners after the finish line.

After run
Just outside the Runner's zone in the entrance park, you'll find the Göteborgsvarvet food court run by Carotte. Here, Carotte serves both hot and cold food, drinks, coffee, and energizing snacks. Additionally, you'll find beer from Poppels, wine, sparkling wine, and cider. Here you can also watch gp.se live broadcast from the course and the finish area. The area is open between 10:00 - 20:00 for both runners and spectators.

Results
Split times and finish times are updated live and can be found here or in our app - Göteborgsvarvet. You will also receive a results email and sms shortly after the finish line.

See yourself run the race! ASICS will send you a link by email with your personalized video shortly after the finish line. By this link you can also search for your video via your bib number and name.

The medal
The 2024 medal is here! It returns in the iconic shape where a round plate is topped by the profile of the Älvsborg Bridge. The city's new skyline is incorporated into the design and the leaf vine from the Göteborgsvarvet Marathon medal has also branched out and taken hold of this year's medal. The medal is created by jewelry artist Carolina Claesson.

Personalised medal badge (iTAB)
Via My dashboard you can buy a personalised medal badge with your name and your finish time engraved on it to commemorate your achievements and attach it to the medal ribbon for only SEK 105.

The last day to order a personal medal badge is 2024-05-30. Your personal medal badge will be sent home by mail in the middle of June.

Diploma
Diplomas with your split times can be ordered on My dashboard. The diploma costs SEK 65. The last day to order a diploma is 2024-05-30. Diplomas are sent home by mail in the middle of June.

Rules and conditions

Göteborgsvarvet is carried out in accordance with the Swedish Athletics Federation's rules for long races. Each runner runs at his/her own risk. It is not allowed to change the starting group. However, if you want to run with a friend, you can always move to a starting group further back. You can do this without contacting us or it affecting your result.

Organizer
The race is organized by the Gothenburg Athletics Association. The surplus goes back to the association's associations and their youth activities, as well as the operation of Friidrottens Hus. Each year Göteborgsvarvet also collects approximately SEK 1 million for our charity partners.
